VForce 3 reed block conversion.

... I had a set of Vforce-3 reeds on my 2005 Rev3 but never got around to doing the conversion on my 2008 270. It isn't a straight bolt on job, it does require a little tweaking!
Why the change? Well as you can see from the photo on the right the Vforce reed has extra inner reeds, the reeds form a W shape. This means they can move the required fuel quicker as they don't have to open so far and snap shut quicker. I also like the lack of screws and metal plates that could, in the event that anything come lose, go into the motor. You can purchase new carbon reeds and gaskets seperately. You can see a slight mod i had to do for the Evo, it required a little bit of a grind to clear the clutch pipe connection and also the vforce logo on the other edge needed a little bit taken off as well.

... to remove the carb I find it much easier to take off the rear mudguard and then, by removing four small allen screws and a carb rubber jubilee clip, completely taking out the airfilter housing. Only takes 3 minutes and saves so much buggering around with the carb and rubbers etc. Once this is done you can easily remove the carb and the inlet rubber and standard reed valve... as seen on the left.
When offering up the vforce to the mounting I saw where I had to do the small mods as described above to the edges, and then I had to undertake the painful bit... hacksaw a part of my new bike apart!! The images below show what has to be done. You have to bolt the old reed block back onto the inlet rubber but with only 2 screws and 2 washers between the rubber and valve to act as a spacer... then you use a hacksaw to remove the two rubber wings that would normally stick into the reed block. The VForce3 has it's own airfoils so they are not needed. The left hand image shows it ready for cutting, and I opened it up to show you what was happening in the r/h image. Once cut I then smoothed the area back down and cleaned everything up ready for fitment... it all went back together easily and when ridden seems to make it better through the whole rev range.
