... not what we had planned!!
| .. it all started with a chat on skype on friday night, I offered to take Rob up to Trefil in Wales as I reckoned it was brilliant for some biketrial. I did mention that being high up near Merthyr it may have a small dusting of snow and a bit of frost. The drive there didn't reveal anything to disprove my words, but upon cresting the last hill before turning of the main road it was obvious I may have been a little wrong! There was about a foot of snow on everything, and the road into the Brecon Beacons was just a pair of groves in the snow!! The good old Vectra made it through the snow and onto the parking area where we met a few local lads starting up Aprilia, GasGas and Beta motorcycles ready for a bit of a play... they lasted about 15 minutes before the headed back off again. About the same time as it took Rob to start whinging that he wouldn't ride anything as it was too dangerous... bloody youngsters! |

.... so we decided to take the bikes for a walk up the mountain so I could at least show him what he can come back and ride in the spring. Once at the top we found we could have a little hop around on the walls of the old mining buildings, but as we had forgone helmets in an effort to keep our heads warm with woolly hats, it was a very mild hop about. The funniest bit was the freewheel back down the mountain to the car... Rob went tits up in the snow once and we both were completely out of control for most of the drop back down. After a bit of a walk around to show Rob more riding areas we started the drive home. Every time I have driven up to that area I have passed an old Castle by the side of the road... coming from 1066 country in East Sussex I grew up with old castles etc so I swung the car into the carpark for a look around. 3 quid later and we were in the gate and walking around a 15th century castle, or what was left of it!!
