Zona 1 mcc Practice club....
The Zona 1 mcc, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, have recently taken over the running of the practice ground just past the Air Balloon pub above junction 11a of the M5..
... Having a fully legal and insured place to practice trials riding these days is a rarity and several old practice locations in the West Country have been lost recently so it is perfect timing that the Zona 1 mcc practice club has started. Many local riders will know of the area known as Nettleton Quarry, and many will have ridden it as the Zona 1 mcc use it on a regular basis for club trial. The old motocross practice track is now no longer on the site so all the area is available for the club officials to turn into one big trial play park.
Steve Saunders, Andy Colbourne, Steve and Rob Workman and many other helpers have put many hours into moving and adding things to give all levels and age groups a great place to practice... and it is an on going thing. Nothing will stay the same for too long so you won't get bored here... here is a gallery of mine and Richards recent visit to the club...
... The sections/obstacles set out are not only for top riders, they can be used by all abilities and age groups and you are free to ride them however you wish. There are also many obstacles that only the experts would want to try..!! And as the ground is mainly cotswold stone if it gets wet and slippery you know it will dry out quickly. But if you want some climbs to learn that throttle control or ability to find grip the wooded section is there for you... some trenches have been dug into the flat area and in the winter they do fill with water giving you an extra hazard. Recently the team have taken delivery of some large tree trunks which have been dug into the banks to produce tricky step groups, joined into a square of varying height and placed at the top of climbs to challenge all... tricky in the dry but when wet a real handfull..! More varied items will arrive on site over time to enlarge the choice of riding terrain.. go to the Zona 1 mcc blog to get all the details for joining this practice club. Not only do you get access at almost any time to the venue but membership of the practice club also gives you mebership to the main Zona 1 mcc club, allowing entry to their Trials events...
